Hi Barr is a nonfiction entertainment studio focused on telling incredible stories from the last 50 years of pop culture—beginning with podcasts. We aim to entertain, inform, and make listeners FEEL!
Ask anyone to define “history” and you’re likely to receive a response that includes a variation of: politics, war, and events/movements that were a result of those elements. We doubt you’ll get a response that mentions music, movies, art or culture and that’s expected (by gawd, that’s the History Channel’s music!).
We’re doing history differently.
We’re focused on making amazing shows led by experts that cover the history of popular culture (music, film, television, sports); as well as, the individuals and events that changed the world over the last fifty years. These are the subjects that academics tend to ignore or eschew in their classes but have changed the world in untold ways.
As John Cusak says in High Fidelity, “Books, records, films—these things matter. Call me shallow. It’s the fucking truth.”
Amen! We’re inspired by the square pegs in the round holes, the mavericks who ignored the naysayers and risked it all, the artists and tastemakers who changed the game and pushed their work forward. Their stories deserve to be told.
